Liverpool could make two signings for Jurgen Klopp despite Timo Werner transfer decision

Liverpool had been tipped for a quiet summer after they decided to pull the plug on a deal for Timo Werner soccer referee tips.
Liverpool could reportedly still make two signings, despite the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis. The Reds have felt the constraints of a lack of match day income, with owners Fenway Sports Group also hit hard by the suspension of the Major League Baseball season with Boston Red Sox.
Heading into the summer, the plan could not have been clearer from Liverpool's perspective.
They had just turned over record profits following their Champions League triumph over Tottenham in Madrid.
Jurgen Klopp wanted to add a forward to his ranks, with the thinking that the Africa Cup of Nations was on the horizon next January.
Liverpool could potentially lose Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for up to six weeks during that period.
Extensive checks have been carried out on Timo Werner in the past few seasons and he was the man the club had identified as their top target.
Werner himself was keen on a move to Anfield and publicly flirted with the idea of working under Klopp at Liverpool.
The club's hierarchy were planning to up their pursuit of the German international in March or April.
That soon changed when it became clear the Reds would not be able to spend big in the current financial climate.
Klopp made it clear to Werner that Liverpool's decision not to sign him was on a purely financial basis.
Given he was their top target, that would suggest there would be little or no business in the coming months.
However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool could still make one or two signings.
That's because UEFA have outlined plans to extend the transfer window until October.
It will allow clubs like Liverpool to adapt to the current market, while also taking extra time to financially recover from the pandemic.
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) have also confirmed that they still intend to showcase the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2021.
That could have a say on Liverpool's transfer plans, particularly with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane poised to miss up to six weeks of action next season.
The future of several Liverpool stars could also have a say on proceedings.
Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic will return from loans with Bournemouth and Hertha Berlin, itching for a chance to shine in the first team soccer tip to win.
While Dejan Lovren, Xherdan Shaqiri and Loris Karius could all follow Nathaniel Clyne and Adam Lallana out the exit door.
